Speaking following his German Grand Prix race at the weekend, he admitted:
'I wear my heart on my sleeve and it is hard to hide my emotions.'
‘I’m trying my hardest to be positive but I’m going through a really, really tough time at the moment with the loss of someone really, really special in my life.’
The devastated 28-year-old is trying to remain focused however, adding:
'I’m going through a really, really tough time at the moment'
‘My world’s turned upside down, but I have a job to do. I need to keep myself occupied and busy because otherwise my mind will wander and that makes the time a lot harder.
‘I need to keep myself really busy and make sure the time goes by quickly.’
The couple split last week following 5 rather rocky years together.
The decision came as a surprise, as Lewis had recently hinted at an imminent proposal, stating:
‘We’ve been together for five years, which is quite a milestone. But hopefully in the near future.’
However reports suggest that 35-year-old Nicole was tired of waiting and called time on the relationship.
An official X Factor spokesperson confirmed last week:
"I can confirm that Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton have split up. But we won't be commenting further."
Nicole, who has returned as a judge to next season’s UK X Factor, has not commented so far though she is said to be equally distraught.
