When Lewis Capaldi took to the stage to collect the 2020 BRIT Award for Song of the Yearfor Someone You LOved, he was quick to clear up any rumours about his ex-girlfriend, Paige Turley – “who you can now watch every night on Love Island” – being the source of inspiration for the track.
“It’s actually written about my grandmother who has very, very sadly passed away, and who I hope to God ITV don’t contact [to] ask to take part in a reality dating show,” he said.
Ouch.

And last weekend Lewis did actually name the song he had written about Paige, telling the audience at a small gig at London’s Seven Dials, that his other big hit, Hold Me While You Wait, was about a relationship he thought “was going well, and the lady has different ideas”.
He added, “She thinks it's going horribly and then she leaves, and you're quite sad about it, and you write an album about it.
“And then she ends up going on Love Island.”
Lewis then joked, “For the record, I hope my ex-girlfriend wins Love Island. Not bitter.”

We particularly enjoyed this joke because the majority of his earlier acceptance speech, for winning the Best Newcomer, was bleeped out for bad language.
Meanwhile, over in South Africa, Paige has been doing incredibly well on the show, becoming part of the first proper couple with new boyfriend Finn Tapp and winning plenty of challenges.
But prior to entering the villa, Paige said, "We went out when we were younger, I was about 17 or 18. We were together for about a year. It ended really amicably and we’re still pals."
Hmmm, not sure they’re QUITE on the same paige.
