When you’re interviewing Tom Hardy about his latest film, it’s probably best not to quiz him on his sexuality.

Because, if you do, you’ll probably end up getting shut down and humiliated – like one journalist this week.

During a press conference for his latest film Legend – based on the notorious gangsters, Ronald and Reginald Kray – one reporter brought up Tom’s own personal life, and described him as ‘ambiguous’.

Graeme Coleman asked: “In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality but given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous.

“Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?”

Tom – who is happily married to Charlotte Riley – appeared baffled by Graeme’s question, and replied: “What on earth are you on about?”

The entire room erupted into laughter, and Graeme attempted to defend his question by referencing an interview Tom had with Attitude magazine in 2008.

But Tom, still clearly perplexed, asked: “But what is your question?”

Making himself quite clear, Tom added: “I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality. Are you asking me about my sexuality?”

When Graeme confirmed that he was, Tom, who is expecting his second child with Charlotte, shut him down and muttered, ‘Thank you’ before moving on.

During Attitude interview mentioned, Tom appeared to confirm that, during his youth, he’d experimented with men.

He allegedly said: “As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for f***’s sake. I’ve played with everything and everyone.”
