Lea Michele had a very tough 2013 but, judging by her emotional new video Cannonball, she's set to make 2014 a happier one for herself.
"It's been such a rock, such a source of strength for me"
When Lea's boyfriend and fellow Glee star Cory Monteith died of an accidental overdose in July, she decided to put her album on hold, despite finishing it a month earlier.
And, when songwriter Sia asked her if there was anything else she wanted to add to her debut album, the actress realised she wanted to share her grief, her personal journey, with her fans.
"I just felt that 'Cannonball' was the perfect first song for people to hear from this record.
"It just really explains where I am right now and it's been such an inspirational song for me. It's been such a rock, such a source of strength for me."
And the video, which begins with a lost looking Lea in a darkened room, has definitely helped her fans experience some of what she's been through in the past few months.
Take a look:
"The minute I heard the song, I had a physical reaction to it. For me, it's been my strength.
"I listen to it every day. I know it was brought into my life for a reason. It's really been so helpful for me and I hope it's the same for other people as it's been for me."
The lyrics, all about finding inner strength after a difficult experience, has become Lea's anthem - and she hopes it will become one for her fans too.
"I think the great thing is that it's such a universal song; it certainly helped me with my loss that I'm dealing with.
"And I think it will translate and help people with whatever they need it for. I hope it gives them the strength that it's given me."
