Cory passed away from a drugs overdose in earlier this year at the age of 31. He had been dated the singer and actress for two years before his shocking death.

Lea spoke to chat show host Ellen Degeneres about her treasured memories of the actor.

She reminisced: 'It's one of my favourite memories. I remember when he came home that night he kind of puffed out his chest and he was like, "I talked about you on Ellen today.’

'I was so happy. He's such a private person and I literally lived everyday of my life feeling like the luckiest girl in the whole world. I just thought he was the greatest man and so at that moment, that memory, it means so much to me.'

Speaking about her grief, Lea said: 'I really feel like I'm still trying to figure out all of this.’

Lea spoke about how her loss has made her a stronger person: 'It's been only a few months… there is an empowerment that comes with grief, at some point you find it.'

'It's very hard but you will find it and I think at a certain point you can choose to sort of fall from this or you can choose to rise.'

Lea went on to tell Ellen about how she wants to make Cory proud and carry him with him: 'And that’s why I'm just trying to do my best for him because I know that that's what he would have wanted, and to just do my best and to you know, hopefully make something positive for where I go in the rest of my life.'

Lea gave an emotional performance in Glee's memorial episode dedicated to Cory.

She spoke about the support of her Glee family and her decision to return to work following Cory’s death and how it helped her carry on with her life.

‘I said I have to go back to work. We have to. They're my family and what people also don't understand is that going to work is no harder than being at home and being in the house and opening up a closet and seeing a pair of shoes.’
