It's been less than two weeks since Wayne Rooney was stopped for drink driving while in a car with Laura Simpson, a 29-year-old office worker, but the speculation surrounding the events of that night has been rife.
It's still unclear as to whether Wayne and Coleen's marriage will survive this latest scandal, with sources claiming they have each issued ultimatums to the other if they are going to make things work and Coleen being spotted out and about without her wedding ring.
But now the woman at the centre of the affair has appeared on ITV's This Morning to give her side of the story.
When asked if she had spoken to a newspaper and confessed to Wayne admiring her breasts before having a 'kiss and cuddle' with the footballer, Laura said: "For one, I had a baggy t-shirt on. For two, I’ve not kissed and I’ve not cuddled him.
"The things in the papers are very inaccurate. I obviously knew who he was. We ended up in the same area (in the nightclub). I don’t know who’s writing all of this."
She continued: “Basically, we just got a cab. It was a bit of a whirlwind really. There was no conversation. We just ended up in my car after getting out of the cab.”
But Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield weren't going to let Laura off lightly and pressed her on whether she was wrong to get into a car with a married man.
Laura, however, defended her actions, saying: “In my eyes I did nothing wrong. I was a couple of drinks down. That wasn’t discussed as to what would happen. If I got in a car in a cab with you (Phillip) I don’t think I would be all over the newspapers.”
Phillip retorted: “You bloody would! My wife would be all over you, that’s for sure. It would be in the newspapers.”
Laura responded: “If it was anybody else it wouldn’t be an issue. It’s been blown out of proportion what was about to happen, well apparently going to happen. We were driving down the road.”
Asked if she regretted her actions, she explained that as she didn't consider herself to be in the wrong, it was hard to feel regret. She confessed: “Regret is a bit of a strong word, when I feel like I’ve done nothing wrong.
"I can’t see anything wrong with getting into a car personally. I do regret the damage it’s causing but I don’t feel I deserve everything I’m getting."
Laura's denials of getting affectionate with wayne Rooney weren't the only revelations. She also confirmed she had spoken to Coleen on the phone. She said: "I spoke to the newspaper after I spoke to Coleen, to try and clear my name.
“I feel like I’ve been thrown under the bus. Basically, I just asked her to give me a call. I told her everything I’ve told you. I told her nothing happened. I don’t feel like I did anything wrong. It was on impulse, getting into the car ... going home.”
But despite Laura's insistance she was the innocent party, viewers of the daytime programme, felt little sympathy.
Taking to Twitter one wrote: "I'm sorry she was dreadful no passion or any descent answers to defend herself......she got him to drive her home that's wrong in my eyes 😡"
While another said: "If she had respect for herself and other women..It would have been a case of" nice to meet Wayne, goodbye 😐"
And one This Morning fan tweeted: "Another fame seeker. Shouldn"t give her air time. Wayne Rooney must be stupid risking his marriage for her."
