Kym Marsh – who plays Michelle Connor in Coronation Street – has responded to Piers Morgan’s claims about his role on the ITV soap, saying “stranger things have happened”.

Last week on Good Morning Britian (May 25), Piers revealed he’s been offered a cameo in Corrie, and that they have asked the presenter what kind of character he wants to play.

Speaking on the show, Piers said: "I suggested I would be Michelle's love interest.

"I'd have a fight with Steve in The Rovers and then Michelle and I would slink off down the cobbles for a bit of, 'How's your father?'"

Susanna Reid then asked her co-presenter whether this was a genuine offer, or just a suggestion from the Coronation Street Twitter producer.

Piers replied: "That person speaks on behalf of the show. And I'm available."

The ITV soap’s Twitter account then posted: "We've seen it all now! @piersmorgan has just auditioned for #Corrie live on @GMB - what did you think? #CorrieSecrets" - which then started a Twitter debate amongst Coronation Street fans.

One replied: “Love the idea. Can’t wait to see him on Corrie!”

“I will like to see that , he could be a villain it would be very interesting [sic],” said another.

However, some fans weren’t so sure of the idea:

One replied: “off the cobbles – send him to Albert Sq.”

“Please, No!” one simply said.

And now, Kym Marsh has spoken out about Piers’ ideas – and it seems she wouldn’t be happy with the GMB presenter playing her love interest.

Speaking to The Express at the British Soap Awards, Kym said: "He's been a little bit predatory, he's stalking me a little bit!

"Stranger things have happened, but no I'd love him to come to Corrie - but not as my love interest."

Would you like to see Piers on Corrie? And do you think he'd make a good love interest for Michelle Connor?
