Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh thought her teenage son was dying in front of her eyes when he struggled to breathe as he battled severe chest pains last summer.
After rushing him to hospital, doctors revealed their fears that 19-year-old David was having a heart attack - leaving the soapstar utterly terrified.
Thankfully David has recovered - although doctors have diagnosed him with myopericarditis, an inflammation of the heart, and warned him that his condition could return at any time.
Kym is now fronting the British Heart Foundation's Dechox campaign, which is urging people to quit chocolate in March to raise money for lifesaving heart research.
She said: “[David]is only 19 years old but was in hospital on antibiotics for a week and he’s still not allowed to play too much sport. I know the terrible effect that heart disease can have on a family.
“That’s why I’m encouraging everyone to join me and take part in the new BHF fundraising campaign, DECHOX, asking people to give up chocolate for the month of March and help raise money for lifesaving heart research.
“It’s going to be difficult for people who love chocolate, like me, but we’ll all be in it together and it’s for such a great cause.”
