Speaking in her column for OK! magazine, the Coronation Street star confirmed that she and Dan are taking a break from their relationship after 18 months together.
Kym Marsh said: "It was a really difficult decision for us both to make but something that we mutually felt we had to do, as we both needed some space."
The mum-of-three added that she and her former fiancé have been in contact daily, however, she that she is hopeful that the pair will be able to work through their differences.
She wrote: "We needed to take a step back, have some time on our own and figure out where things have gone wrong and see if we can fix it – I hope that we can.
"I've said in the past that I've felt happier with Dan than with anyone and that's true, but issues come up in relationships and you have to try and deal with them."
The pair have called time on their relationship after 18 months ago.
Earlier this year, Kym happily revealed that he went to her two older children, Emilie and David, to ask for their permission.
Speaking on ITV's Loose Women, Kym Marsh said: "Yeah, he went to them about it."
The 38-year-old added firmly: "We're very much a family unit."
Fingers crossed that the pair are able to work things out.
