The former couple, who were only married for 72 days, finalised their divorce on Friday, after 536 days of bitter negotiation.
Kris Humphries, 28, was reportedly demanding a $7 million payout as well as an annulment based on fraud.
However the basketball player is said to have dropped his demands, fearing that the drawn-out court appearances could affect his appearances on the basketball court.
A friend told a US website:
"At the end of the day, Kris is truly a good guy. Yes, he was angry at Kim for the way their marriage ended and he truly did feel defrauded by her and the show."
'She's pregnant and obviously under a lot of stress. He didn't want to be a part of it any more'
"But lately, especially in recent weeks, he just feels sorry for her. She's pregnant and obviously under a lot of stress. He didn't want to be part of it any more."

The source added:
"This was never about the money for Kris. He has plenty. It was about clearing his name."
"But I think he finally realized enough damage has been done on both sides and it was time to end the situation once and for all."
In a bid to avoid paying Kim's legal fees if unable to prove the marriage was indeed fraudulent, Kris is said to have settled, with both parties paying their own legal fees.
The sportsman did not appear in court on Friday, and the marriage was dissolved with just Kim and his representative present.
Addressing the 32-year-old reality star, judge Hank Goldberg said:
"I think this is a reasonable way to resolve this case."
Speaking at the end of the hearing, the judge explained there would be no further trial, before adding:
"Congratulations on your dissolution."
Kim will now give birth to Kanye's child in July a single woman- that is, unless the rapper marches her up the aisle before then.
