Kellie- formerly known as Frank- has been living as a woman for the past 18 months, but only revealed her new identity earlier this year.
Speaking to a UK newspaper, Kellie said she was with her eldest daughter Emma, 32, when doctors rang to inform her what date her operation had been booked.
“I had a few emotions, and Emma said, ‘Oh God, not more tears,” Kellie revealed.
“But for the first time in my life, I’m going to be complete in my body and my mind. I can really start getting on with my life.”
The former boxing promoter said that she is not nervous about her operation, but that it ‘feels right’.
“It’s not nerve wracking. I thought it would be but it’s something I’ve always wanted. It’s how I want to see my body when I look in the mirror.
“As soon as I can get out of that bed, I’m going to look in a full-length mirror at myself and for the first time ever, I will see the person I should have been all of my life staring back at me.
“I’m quite brave, but I don’t want to look in the mirror if it’s not right. I want to be told by a doctor that the bandages are off, the swelling is gone. I just want to see it when the doctor says: ‘Kellie, you can take the wrappings off and you can now get out of bed.’”
Kellie continued: “I’ve been over the moon since I heard the date. I can’t stop smiling. When I was born, the midwife just got me wrong. If you’re born without a leg or without an arm, you can have it medically corrected. I was born with the wrong body to match my brain.
“All I’m doing is have the doctors correct it so I can live life how I should have lived it.”
The 60-year-old told The Mirror that she plans to have her operation done privately to allow the NHS to provide sex change operations to less well-off transgender people.
