Brooke Axtell, who suffered violence in her past, will team up with the Roar singing on Sunday night. In an interview she spoke of her hopes for other survivors and explained she would be reading a speech in a bid to help others.
“It's an hour to collaborate with Katy in this way," she told People. “She has been very devoted to various aspects of female empowerment.
“It's going to bring a lot of encouragement and freedom to those who hear my story and know that they are not alone in this. I don't see myself as a victim. I see myself as a warrior for peace and healing.”
Ken Erlich, a Grammys producer, is reported to have come up with the idea after seeing a chance to “do something really important” in front of a large crowd.
He added: “It is one thing to have Katy sing. But why would we not want to accompany it with someone's personal experience who could humanise [domestic abuse] and make it relatable to millions of men and women who are survivors.”
Katy broke records last week with her half time performance at the Super Bowl. She now holds the title for the ‘most watched’ half time show in the events history, clocking up a staggering 118.5 million viewers.
Other performers set to take to the stage at the Grammys on Sunday night are Beyonce, Rihanna, Sam Smith and Kayne West.
You can watch the full show on Monday night, at 9pm, on 4Music.
