Never one to shy away from controversy, Katie Price has waded into the debate over having babies ears pierced.

The 37-year-old took to Instagram to share a snap of 18-month-old daughter Bunny, showing off her brand-new ear bling – and was met with huge backlash.

Many of former glamour model Katie’s followers insisted it is wrong, and claimed it inflicts unnecessary pain on little ones.

One user blasted: “When people say they ‘don’t see the problem’, it’s because they ARE the problem. A form of child abuse. How could you PAY someone to hurt your child for no reason?”

Another fumed: “There should be a law stopping babies getting pierced!! They haven’t asked for it and it’s for pure vanity reasons by the parents it’s selfish and there’s just no need for it all! Wait until they are old enough to ask themselves!! [sic].”

Dr Christian Jessen previously compared piercing a babies ear for FGM [Female genital mutilation] during a debate on Twitter.

When a follower insisted the piercings could be removed, suggesting it’s NOT child abuse, Dr Christian responded: “And broken bones will always heal, I suppose. Jeez.”

But, while Katie received a huge number of negative comments, many of the followers supported her decision.

One said: “I had mine done at months old, never have I had a problem with mine! I had my daughters done at 18 months old, it's entirely up to the parents! If it wasn't there wouldn't be places where you can get it done!! Silly little people with nothing better to do than judge others! [sic].”
