Katie Piper is the proud mum of baby Belle, not to mention happily engaged to long-term partner James - but she still finds it hard to escape the trauma of the acid attack she suffered seven years ago.

The Bodyshockers presenter was just 24-years-old when an ex-boyfriend paid a man to throw acid in her face, leaving her in agony, blinding her in one eye, and throwing her life into the balance.

So it's unsurprising that she still suffers from anxiety - and that she is fiercely protective of her little girl.

Speaking in a new interview with Reveal, Katie explained: "When Belle was born people tweeted terrible things like 'she's as ugly as her mum', and I don't want her to have that when she goes to school."

The experience has let Katie desperate to keep Belle out of the limelight, and left her feeling uneasy when she is stopped by members of the public while out with her little girl.

She said: "When strangers approach me for a picture or a chat when I'm out with her, I get nervous because of the attack.

"I try hard not to show it, as I don't want Belle to be affected by my anxiety over something from the past.

"But it's definitely made me more protective."

The former model, who underwent hundreds of operations to rebuild her face, has since become an inspiration for people everywhere, setting up the Katie Piper Foundation to help those living with scars and burns.

And, yesterday, she shared two new images of herself post-acid attack, in a bid to convince other survivors to share their stories.

Referencing her attacker, she captioned one of the shots: "Don't let anyone silence you."

She added: "When I look in the mirror my scars no longer upset me, they just remind me I am stronger than the person who tried to hurt.

"We all have scars whether they are on the skin or the soul. Remember only those who survive wear scars.

"Next time you look in the mirror repeat to yourself I'm proud to be a survivor."

Katie was flooded by messages of gratitude and support from fans, with many praising her as an 'inspiration'.

One wrote: "When this pic was taken I bet you never dreamed at how far you would have come along-both physically and mentally."

Another added: "Beautiful, incredible, strong, brave, inspirational lady!!

"Most people think they have problems or challenges and most will never go through a quarter of what you've been through in their lifetime! It's Monday at work and the blues hit ....until I opened Instagram and saw this! @katiepiper_ thank you for sharing and spreading positivity xxx"
