Campaigner Katie Piper, who was badly burnt in an acid attack in 2008, has revealed she is worried about the "dangerous world" her unborn daughter will grow up in.
"Because of everything that has happened to me, I had this slight feeling of panic, thinking, 'Oh gosh but it's such a dangerous world for a woman'"
The 30-year-old, who was left blind in one eye after her ex-boyfriend arranged for an accomplice to throw sulphuric acid in her face, has revealed that her unborn baby is "the start of a whole new life" for her.
But, in an interview with Hello! magazine, she admitted that she and her partner James had been convinced they were having a baby boy - and that she is worried for her little girl.
"Of course, your main concern is that your baby is forming healthily and everything is progressing as it should.
"But because of everything that has happened to me, I had this slight feeling of panic, thinking, 'Oh gosh but it's such a dangerous world for a woman'."
However, despite her fears, Katie - who runs her own charitable foundation which helps those who've suffered burns and scars - added that her baby is changing her life in so many ways.
“This is the start of a whole new life.
“The other night I was at a charity ball and everyone I met wanted to talk to me about the baby, not about my burns and recovery. I thought, ‘Hallelujah’.
“This baby doesn’t know it but she is changing my life in so many ways and it’s wonderful.”
And Katie also made sure to pay tribute to her loving boyfriend James, explaining that she can't wait to have a child with the man who makes her "feel so loved".
She said: “After a couple of months of being with him, I made him read my autobiography.
“This baby doesn’t know it but she is changing my life in so many ways and it’s wonderful”
“I said I would rather he read it than me have to tell him everything. Then if he had any questions he could ask me.
“He was angry and upset [after he read it]. By then we had fallen in love. James and I are similar in that we’re very involved with our families.
“He makes me feel so loved and when I get insecure he’ll tell me that, to him, I’m not burnt, I’m all these other lovely things which he’ll remind me of.
“That’s the great thing about having a child together - I feel like I have a new start and I can leave the past behind.”
We think that Katie Piper's little girl, despite growing up in a world which can be particularly cruel to women, is going to be just fine. After all, she has an amazing role model in her mother to look up to.
