The 30 year-old TV presenter revealed the ‘beyond incredible news’ that she and her partner of two years are expecting their first child in her newspaper column.
Katie, who had her 12-week scan last week, wrote: ‘I just want to shout it from the rooftops. I love children and I’d always hoped I’d be able to have a family. I’m so excited.’
‘We have been trying and this was all planned,’ she added.
I’ve always known that I have wanted children but there were moments after what happened to me that I never thought this would happen
The happy news comes five years after Katie’s violent ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch ordered acid to be thrown in her face as revenge for being rejected. Katie had cut ties with him after he raped her and held her captive in a hotel for eight hours.
The former model – who was left with horrific burns after the acid melted her face and blinded her in one eye – said yesterday: ‘I’ve always known that I have wanted children but there were moments after what happened to me that I never thought this would happen, I never believed this would be my future. It’s beyond incredible.
‘It’s because I’m so happy about it that it’s been so hard keeping quiet and I’m actually relieved to be able to tell everyone.
‘It’s really nice to share this news with people who have given me so much support over the years.’
It's funny that both myself and Simon Cowell, who is patron of my charity the Katie Piper Foundation, are going through the same experience.
Since her ordeal in 2008, after which she had to endure over 40 operations, Katie has bravely rebuilt her life and inspired many with her series of thought-provoking documentaries.
She has also set up her own charity, The Katie Piper Foundation, which organises activities for people with burns and scars, as well as assisting with medical treatments and support.
Katie added how happy she was to share the experience with patron of her charity Simon Cowell; soon to become a first-time father with pregnant girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
She wrote: 'It's funny that both myself and Simon Cowell, who is patron of my charity the Katie Piper Foundation, are going through the same experience.
'Perhaps the children will be playmates one day.'
