**Ever since a horrific acid attack in 2008 left her face scarred for life, Katie Piper has shown incredible courage, campaigning on behalf of other victims and setting up The Katie Piper Foundation to support fellow burns survivors. **
Her strength has been an inspiration to many, but Katie has confided in Closer that she’s turned to therapy to overcome the emotional impact of her life changing injuries.
“It can be difficult to be put on a pedestal and be seen as someone who’s a consistently strong person because no one is like that unless they’re superhuman,” she revealed.
“I have times where I have to have a break from it – it’s important to recognise that.”
Mum of one Katie, 32, who has recently returned from her honeymoon after marrying her partner Richard Sutton in November last year, adds: “People might say I’m inspirational and brave but it’s not true.
"I sometimes can’t cope and I think that’s really normal – the most attractive, level-headed women have really crappy days sometimes, that’s life.
“I’ve used a range of things to cope: Cognitive behavioural therapy [used to reduce distressing memories], rapid eye movement and hypnotherapy, but I’ve found that, for me, a combination approach is best.
"The biggest thing that has worked for me is positive thinking. Being with negative people really drains you.”
