When Angelina Jolie revealed that she had undergone surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes, her fans rushed to praise her for her bravery.
But Celebrity Big Brother star Katie Hopkins has a very different view of the Oscar-winning actress.
Taking to Twitter, the mum-of-three wrote: “Angelina Jolie. Smug doesn't even come close. Curating her organs to maximise life expectancy. What's next fag ash lil? Your lungs?”
Fans of Angelina leapt to her defence, with one writing: “If you listen to the actually story, it's to prevent cancer, I'm sure you'd do it on your battered old daffodil(sic).”
Another commented: “Smug? Potentially increasing her life expectancy to be able to watch her children grow up and grow old with her husband?”
Angelina underwent the surgery after tests indicated she was starting to develop early signs of cancer.
The 39-year-old underwent a double mastectomy in 2013 after discovering she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene, which greatly increased her chances of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
She wrote in the New York Times that she is now entering early menopause and will have to take hormone replacement drugs for the rest of her life.
