We’re never surprised when Katie Hopkins tweets or says anything hurtful or below-the-belt, but even her most loyal followers were shocked when she claimed she ‘doesn’t care’ about the thousands of migrants who drown on their way to Europe.
The 40-year-old wrote in her column last week: "Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in water, play violins and show me skinny people looking sad. I still don’t care.”
She then compared the migrants to ‘cockroaches’ and suggested the Italy use ‘gunships’ to deter them from making the dangerous journey across the mediterranean.
Russell Brand took to his YouTube channel to blast Hopkins for her comments. He compared her views to Nazi commander Heinrich Himmler, before adding: "This is not hyperbole, to compare Katie Hopkins to Hitler... it's simply some facts."
He then described her as "the puss emerging from the pimple of our policy.”
"We can't look at her the way she looks at immigrants, as some sort of weird disgusting cockroachy thing that should be crushed, that's what I feel like, but that's not what we should do. What we should do is be really loving to her because anyone who talks like that, is in pain.”
Hopkins continued her strict stance on migrants, despite the backlash, appearing on a radio show yesterday to discuss her views.
