Winslet and her husband Ned Rocknroll were holidaying separately on Richard Branson's Necker Island when a fire broke out - forcing the two to meet.
'The house burned down and we survived,' sad Kate. 'But we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with. Bear Blaze.'
The actress spoke to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show this week.
After the August 2011 incident the pair struck up a relationship, and were married in December 2012. Baby Bear was born a year later on December 7 2013.
Kate famously rescued Virgin boss Branson's elderly mother when the blaze broke out in the early hours of the morning.
Winslet also spoke out this week about the 4.4 magnitude earthquake that hit LA on Monday. The star said that she rushed to the door of her house 'breast pump in my hand.'
The 38-year-old had travelled to LA to receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame when the incident occurred, which left Winslet 'frightened.'
Talking at the ceremony on Monday, Kate said: 'I feel very honoured twenty years into my own career to be standing in such a poignant place and being celebrated in such spectacular fashion. Thank you very much for my star and thank you very much for having me.'
And despite only giving birth three months ago, the mother-of-three looked incredible as she showed off her figure in a body con black dress.
