Despite rising to fame as a party animal in the ’90s, Kate Moss had surprised fans, friends and family in recent years by doing a complete U-turn on her wild ways and embracing a more wholesome life of green juices and Pilates. However, after a spate of big nights out, friends fear a return to her old ways.

Earlier this month, Kate, 51 – who shares daughter Lila, 22, with her ex-boyfriend, Jefferson Hack, 53 – raised eyebrows for her behaviour at Paris Fashion Week. Fans were concerned for the model as she appeared on edge while seated front row at the Isabel Marant show, and the frantic display has led her friends and family to suspect that she may return to her partying ways.

An insider tells Closer, ‘Kate’s pals are urging her to be careful and take caution – no one wants to see her step back into her hell-raising days. They’re hoping she can find a balance between letting her hair down and continuing to practise the self-care that she’d been doing more of in the past few years.’

Twenty years ago, Kate’s name was synonymous with partying. There were countless paparazzi shots of her stumbling out of nightclubs in the early hours, or dangling out of windows at parties smoking a cigarette.

Things reached a worrying peak in 2005 when she began dating wild rocker Pete Doherty who, at the time, was battling a heroin and cocaine addiction. That same year, Kate lost contracts with Burberry, H&M and Chanel after pictures of her apparently taking cocaine ran front page in a tabloid newspaper – leading her to put out a statement to apologise to ‘family, friends, co-workers and business associates’ for her behaviour.

Things began to look up when she started dating Count Nikolai von Bismarck in 2015. Despite being 13 years younger than Kate, 38-year-old Nikolai enjoyed a quiet lifestyle, which friends believed had a positive impact on Kate.

In 2018, she embraced a new life centred around holistic, clean living. In 2020, she gave an interview where she revealed that she regularly practises yoga, adding, ‘I do celery juices for everyone in the house in the morning.’

Now, although Kate’s drug-taking days are long over, a source tells Closer that since Kate and Nikolai split in December, she has started hitting the town again, much to the disappointment of her close friends and family.

The source says, ‘Kate’s health kick was inspired by her relationship with Nikolai and they bonded over their sobriety. When they split up, pals were really hoping Kate would stick to that clean living path, but it seems like she could be venturing into the party circuit instead.’

Although Kate – who had a short stint in rehab at London’s Priory clinic in the late ’90s, reportedly for exhaustion – has been spotted partying recently, she insists that this is not a repeat of her wild-child days.

‘Kate feels as though any worries her friends may have are an overreaction. She wants to have fun, enjoy herself and hopefully meet someone – she can’t do that if she is staying at home meditating,’ says the insider.

‘But her inner circle still have concerns. There are worries of what could happen if she didn’t curb her partying and get everything under control.’
