Despite their husbands being at loggerheads, it seems Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are united in admiration for their style icon mother-in-law – the late Princess Diana – with Kate last week upping the ante in an identical royal blue ensemble.
True blue beauties
Serving up the finest royal blue, Kate mirrored Diana’s 1992 outfit on a trip to Scotland last week. She marries a Hope pleated midi skirt with a boxy Zara blazer, punctuated with gold buttons – a look that has lasted the test of time. The only slight difference is the jacket length – and the hairdo!
Pink pair
Kate met with five-year-old cancer patient Mila Sneddon at Holyroodhouse last week and had promised to wear pink for the occasion. The Duchess stuck to her word and went all-out with this beautiful pleated dress by ME+EM, which echoed the cerise ensemble Diana wore while in Eqypt in 1992.
Tartan twins
Diana was a big fan of tartan, and Kate followed in her footsteps when she wore this heather Holland Cooper coat in Scotland last week. With its striking silhouette and belted waist, the £849 trench harked back to this power outfit that Di wore on her own trip to Scotland in 1985.
Monochrome masters
Kate is a fan of a tailored coat dress, and this black and white Catherine Walker design is strikingly similar to the outfit Diana wore to the VJ Day celebrations back in 1995. Kate gave the look a modern spin by swapping the wide-brimmed hat for a chic black fascinator.

Blush buddies
Pink was Diana’s favourite colour and Meghan chose a very similar blush-pink shade for this bespoke dress by Carolina Herrera. With its Bardot neckline and buttons it was a doppelgänger for the silk gown Diana wore to the Berlin Opera House back in 1987.
Colour-clash queens
Meghan earned fashion points when she wore this colour-clash combo. Her bold choice reminded fans of Diana, who wore her vivid Catherine Walker skirt and jacket several times, including for this iconic snap by the Taj Mahal in 1992 towards the end of her marriage.

In more royal news, as the fallout with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle deepens, The Duchess of Cambridge’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, tells Closer Kate is the key to healing their rift with the royal family.
Recruitment consultant Gary, 56, who is the younger brother of Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, has said, “I went from being happy [about Harry taking the decision to seek a more “private life”] to angry, to worried about him.
“Everyone is astonished. He wanted to step back and protect his wife, now he’s charging in. It’s an attack on the family – why do it? If you want an easy life, work it out privately and have a conversation respectfully. Don’t air it in public, it’s really hurtful.
“The harsh truth – in my opinion – is that if Harry doesn’t get a grip and stop this self-indulgent episode, there will soon be no common ground or relationship to rebuild.
“But if anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can. Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker. Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can... She’s trying to mediate.”
