Kate Lawler has taken to Instagram to hit out at followers who accused her of ‘putting her dogs before her child’ when she posted a picture of fur babies Baxter and Shirley.
In the original post, Kate, who became a mum for the first time earlier this year, wrote, “It’s not my first Mother’s Day. It’s my 11th. Being a dog Mum is the best thing in the world.”
However, some fans took issue with the post, with one writing, “Interesting how you put your dogs’ names first on your main page before your kids. The mind reflects how you feel. Clearly you’re very reluctant being a mother,” and another commenting, “All she ever posts about her child is negative things or complaints.”
Wow.
Kate responded with an impassioned and searingly honest post about being a mum to daughter Noa, who’s suffered with multiple health issues since her birth.
“Of her first 33 days outside of the womb, 14 were spent in hospital, she’s still not sleeping (barely two hours a night) due to trapped wind, reflux or colic. I love my child and for nearly five weeks, I’ve devoted myself to keeping her alive.”

Speaking about how she’s coped, Kate continued, “Being a mum to a newborn is not the best thing ever right now. It’s broken me. I feel as if I’ve been treading water since February 11th and the last two days I’ve felt like I’m at breaking point.
“I’m not coping well mentally and wish I could be stronger for my daughter. I’m not enjoying what I’m going through, yes I’m struggling and you’re right, I am sad behind the eyes because I’ve always taken on new challenges like a duck to water but this one is testing me and I feel like I’m failing.”
