TV presenter Kate Garraway has opened up about being an "older mum" and how her daughter has been affected by it
Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has opened up about the pressures of being seen as an "older mum" to her daughter.
In an interview with Lorraine Kelly on her morning TV show Lorraine, Kate, 49, revealed that her 11-year-old daughter, Darcey, has recently opened up to her mum that she's "worried" about Kate being older than her friends' mums.
She said: "We were talking about my age and me being an older mum the other day and I just asked what she thought of me being an older mum compared to some of her other friends, and she did say for the first time ever, 'I wish you were younger because I just worry that you might die sooner'."
Discussing her new book, The Joy Of Big Knickers - named after the incident where Ben Shephard picked her up without warning and flashed her underwear to the nation, Kate and Lorraine discussed getting older as Kate approaches her 50th birthday.
She continued: "So I feel as though there's even more responsibility now to take my health more seriously, to take being present seriously - even though I know that actually I can be as energetic as younger people because you have a different focus I think. This is the right time for me to be a mum."
Kate, who is mum to Darcey, 11, and William, seven, with politician husband Derek Draper, continued: "But it made me think that actually some of the issues I've been discussing, she's been thinking about as well."
They went on to discuss losing parents, and how it was affecting them. Kate said: "I found that I was fearing loss and death, and actually that was stopping me enjoying the now."
We think you're rocking it, Kate!
