It was the interview we all anticipated with curiosity- Bruce Jenner revealing he is indeed making the transition from male to female.
In an emotional discussion with American news anchor Diane Sawyer, the former Olympian admitted that ‘for all intents and purposes I am a woman’.
He also revealed that he had felt confused by his gender identity since an early age and had cross dressed in private since childhood.
Speaking about the effect on the family, Bruce told Diane that step daughter Kim Kardashian was the first to find out about his gender identity when she walked in on him wearing a dress. The 34-year-old’s husband Kanye West was also praised as an important factor in Kim’s acceptance of Bruce’s transition.
Kim led the way responding to the interview, posting photos of her and Bruce on Twitter and writing: “Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself. Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter
Your honesty has opened the doors for others to be courageous and live an authentic life! #respect #hero #family
The eldest Kardashian sister, Kourtney, wrote: “Couldn't be a more proud daughter. With courage and bravery, let's change the world. I am honoured to stand by Bruce's side and support him.”
Khloe, 30, tweeted: “Just finished watching the #BruceJennerInterview with the family. Bruzer, I'm soooo proud of you! Dads really are heros .”
Bruce’s youngest daughters Kylie, 17, and Kendall, 19, also took to social media to share their admiration for his brave TV appearance.
Kylie tweeted: “Understandingly, this has been very hard for me. You will hear what I have to say when I'm ready to but this isn't about me. I'm so proud of you, Dad. You are so brave. My beautiful Hero.”
Kendall, who always had a particularly close relationship with her father, tweeted simply: “I love you… So very proud of you, my hero.”
Stepson Rob Kardashian even broke his Twitter silence and wrote: “You have always been a role model to me and now more than ever, I look up to you. LOVE YOU.”
Ex wife Kris Jenner tweeted: “Not only was I able to call him my husband for 25 years and father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero.”
