The couple confirmed that they are living in separate homes after months of speculation over the state of their 22 year-long marriage.

A statement said: 'We are living separately and we are much happier this way,'

'But we will always have much love and respect for each other. Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority.'

Meanwhile, a US magazine have reported that the couple kept the separation a secret for a whole year and are not divorcing because they do not have a prenuptial agreement in place.

There had been rumours of marriage woes for months and fans of the couple’s family TV show had seen Bruce often move out of the Kardashian family home. In the most recent series, he spent time at a beach house in Malibu while while Kris prepared their marital home for the arrival of daughter Kim's baby with Kanye West.

But just last year, Kris, 57, denied her marriage was on the rocks insiting: ‘We just laugh it off. We love each other and just laugh about it...These kind of stories have been circulating for the last couple of years.’

The pair married in 1991, just a month after Kris divorced her children's father Robert Kardashian. They merged their huge family and went on to have daughters Kendall, now 17, and Kylie, now 16.

Kris has four children, Kim, 32, Kourtney, 34, and Khloe, 29 and Rob, 26 with her late ex-husband.

Olympic medallist Bruce, 63, was also previously married to Linda Thompson, with whom he has two sons, Brandon, 32, and Brody, 30, and also to his first wife Chrystie Crownover, with whom he has a son Burt, 35, and daughter Casey, 33.

Their announcement comes amid intense focus on Khloe Kardashian's marriage to basketball star Lamar Odom, who is allegedly struggling with drug addiction and has moved out of their mansion in L.A.
