The altercation was captured on video and shows West angrily assaulting the photographer after being bombarded with a series of questions. The photographer falls on to his knees whilst Kanye attempts to take his camera.
The photographer was taken to hospital following the assault and has told authorities that he wants to press charges against the singer.
Speaking about the incident, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Airport Police said: ‘LAFD was notified, responded to the location and transported the victim to a local hospital for medical attention. A police report was taken by the Los Angeles Police Department and the investigation is ongoing.'
According to an American website, police officers will refer the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as a felony attempted robbery rather than the lesser charge of battery.
Prosecutors will decide which charges will be filed, if any.
This isn’t the first time Kanye has been involved in an altercation with photographers. Just last week he went on a furious rant at the same airport after a paparazzo complimented his music.
Ironically, West’s outburst took place on the same day that girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, insisted that the rapper does not have a temper on show 'The Talk on Friday'.
She said: 'Knowing Kanye and I do know him very, very well and I am very close to him...he doesn't have a short temper like everybody thinks.'
Referring to a previous incident with a photographer, she added: ‘'None of us know the fifteen minutes that happened before that and how crazy they could have gotten.’
‘I think what happens with anybody who gets upset over something with paparazzi-related issues is that they are obviously provoked to an extent that we don't see nothing about'.
The rapper has also been accused of slamming 23-year-old singer Taylor Swift in a leaked tape earlier this week.
