The Bend It Like Beckham star, 37, has been in and out of rehab for the past 10 years, being arrested at least twice for being intoxicated in public.

And after incriminating photos emerged of the Tudors actor drinking neat vodka on the streets of London last week, many feared that the popular star had once again turned to his demon drink.

Taking to his fiancée’s Instagram page on Tuesday, Jonathan apologised to anyone he had upset due to his appearance.

‘Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time. I apologise for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me.’

‘I am on the mend and thank well wishes and sorry for my dishevelled appearance as I was on my way home from a friends and had not change I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery otherwise I’m living a healthy life.’

‘Love and blessings’ the star signed off, before the hashtags ‘#Rebel #Angel.’
