With close to a quarter of people now choosing to be celibate, Jodie Marsh opens up about her experience of life without sex
She shot to fame as a super-sexy glamour girl, posing for the likes of Playboy and gaining notoriety with her outrageous outfits.
But for the past 10 years, Jodie Marsh, 40, has shunned her raunchy image, after declaring in 2009 that she was becoming celibate. And she isn’t alone in her decision –statistics show that 23 per cent of adults were celibate in 2018 – double the figure in 2008.
Speaking on Dr Pam Spurr’s podcast, Wham Bam It’s Dr Pam, Jodie – who is still celibate – revealed that she is positive about what the practice has brought to her life and regrets breaking her sex ban after six years when she married James Placido in 2015.

She revealed, “I did six years celibate. Then I met [my ex-husband, James] and it really wasn’t worth breaking the celibacy for – that was for less than a year. [After that] I was celibate again for three years, broke the celibacy again for a few weeks, and it really wasn’t worth it again. I’m celibate again now.”
While Jodie has sworn off sex for two prolonged periods over the past 10 years, she said that both times she did break her ban, it was less than mind-blowing.

She revealed, “If I’d broken [the celibacy] and then had [amazing] sex, then it would have been great – but it wasn’t worth it. Both times I broke my celibacy it wasn’t worth it… I’d rather read my Kindle in bed.”
Jodie’s relationship history has been turbulent and she’s previously been linked to celebrities such as reality star Calum Best, nightclub owner Fran Cosgrave, Blazin’ Squad’s Kenzie, singer Frankie Cocozza and former TOWIE star Kirk Norcross. She married Katie Price’s former boyfriend Matt Peacock in 2007, but the marriage only lasted three months.
In December 2018, Jodie broke her celibacy pact for a second time, and was rumoured to be engaged to Netflix film director Wayne Lennox. But Jodie and Wayne had split by January, with Jodie revealing in an emotional blog thatWayne had committed the “unforgivable” actof hiding the fact that he had three children by three different women.
“My mind is blown,” Jodie revealed. “I am so happy to have got out when I did. No one should ever tolerate mental or physical abuse.”
Jodie – who previously told Closer that she wants to have a baby using a sperm donor if she doesn’t meet the right man – said that she’s now got a no-tolerance approach when it comes to men cheating on her.
“I’ve always caught [men cheating] and I won’t take someone back if they do cheat on me – it’s awful,” she said. “I don’t know if I’m sceptical because of my experiences in life and I think more people cheat than people realise.”
Self-confessed tomboy Jodie is mad on bodybuilding and motorbikes and is also an animal lover. She says that an added bonus of celibacy is that it gives her more time for her hobbies.
She said, “I chose this route because I think people jump into bed too quickly these days. I’d love to meet a guy who wanted to get to know someone before jumping into bed with them. It’s not lacking in masculinity at all for a man to be celibate – it’s sensible and strong minded.”
She added, “I get more done and I’m more focused. I don’t miss sex. I’d had too much meaningless sex with men who I knew didn’t care about me as a person.”
