Joan Rivers tragically passed away on the 4th September, after the 81-year-old slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness after being sedated for an endoscopy procedure.

Her daughter, Melissa, announced the death, in a New York hospital, in a short statement in which she said: “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers.

“She passed peacefully at 1.17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.

“My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

The New York State Department of Health have since launched an investigation into Yorkville Endoscopy, the out-patient clinic where Rivers went into arrest.

Spokesman James O'Hare said Thursday that the department is looking into "the whole matter." He declined to discuss specifics.

The clinic has said it is cooperating fully.

Reports from RadarOnline have also claimed that the comedy legend was given Propofol, which is often used was an anaesthetic for simple medical procedures, before she died.

It is the same drug that gained infamy after it was revealed that Michael Jackson died after taking a cocktail of drugs that included Propofol.
