Jim Carrey has paid tribute to his ex-girlfriend who tragically took her own life.

28-year-old Cathriona White was found by friends at an undisclosed location In Los Angeles, late on Monday. Her body was accompanied by a suicide note, which mentions actor Jim Carrey.

In a statement released after the news came to light, Jim, 53, said: “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”

He added: “We have all been hit with a lightning bolt,” the actor added.

The Irish make-up artist is alleged to have overdosed on drugs, and it has been reported that her body was surrounded by pills when it was found.

On September 25, Cathriona tweeted a dark message: “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest,” before heading off of the social media site.

The on-and-off couple, who had dated since 2012, had rekindled their romance in May 2015, before apparently splitting this month.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Cathriona at this time.
