Jason, 33, and partner Lucy Dyke welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world on the 8th January.

And, after speaking with the Anthony Nolan Trust, the couple decided to do something very special with their daughter to celebrate her safe arrival.

The former One Show host explained how he and Lucy donated the umbilical cord and placenta to the Anthony Nolan Trust for stem cell research after meeting members of its team at St Mary’s.

The charity helps leukaemia patients who need a stem cell, bone marrow or cord blood transplant to find a match.

The comedian wrote on Facebook: “It means that our baby will have helped save a life before she’s even started school which is a pretty cool thought!

“Unless you’re one of these nutters who fries it the day after for breakfast...it’d be worth asking your midwife about it too!”

Jason isn't the only one speaking up about cord and placenta donation; an increasing number of women are being asked if they want to do the same.

It is, according to medical experts, totally risk free and does not interfere with the baby’s delivery.

The blood is collected by a specialist nurse shortly after a baby has been born.

Cancer experts say thousands of lives could be saved if collections were made at more hospitals across the country.
