Scottish teenager Lucy Clode met James after his performance in Of Mice And Men. The actor is currently performing a run of shows in the big apple.

Lucy took a selfie with the heartthrob before filming a short Instavid of the actor, which shows him grinning at the camera before asking her to ‘tag me in it.’

The 17-year-old did as he asked and it wasn’t long before the actor contacted her through the photo-sharing site.

The actor asked her how long she was in New York for and if she had a boyfriend, to which she replied: ‘Not if you’re around.’

He then started messaging her asking if he could see her, but Lucy was unsure whether the whole thing was an April Fool.

She messaged him saying: ‘This will be a story my Scottish friends will never believe.’

James then replied: ‘Don’t tell.’

Still unconvinced, Lucy asked him to send ‘proof’ in the form of a picture of the actor holding a piece of paper with her name.

It was reported that the actor had been messaging a girl under the age of consent, but the age of consent in New York (where the actor lives) is 17.

Nonetheless, the tender age of the object of his, ahem, affections is something that left a few fans concerned, leading to James’ Instagram and Twitter followers to pull him up about the incident.

James took to his Twitter to defend himself over the messages.

He posted a picture with the message: ‘Why are you thirsty for underage ones?’ but captioned with: ‘I’m not! I hope parents keep their teens away from me! Thank you.’

Unbelievable!
