It was announced that Hollywood actor and musician Jack Black had died on Twitter today, but we can announce that the actor is alive and well.

The film star, who starred alongside Kate Winslet in The Holiday, was in fact the victim of a social media hacker.

In what would have been very sad news, a tweet that appeared to confirm his death was tweeted from his band Tenacious D’s account. It read, “It is with a heavy heart I am to announce that Jack Black passed away last night at 3:37am. The cause of death is yet unknown.”

But after realising the error of his or her ways, the individual responsible for the sick lie later tweeted, “Calm down guys! It's just a prank bro, look there's the camera…”

They later wrote, “The Legend is still alive, it is ok guys :)

“While you are all on Twitter, you should all follow me @Ruthless XDDD.”

Jack’s bandmade John Konesky also tweeted about the sick joke, writing, “@RealTenaciousD 's Twitter feed was hacked. Than sh*t ain't true! They're working on fixing it!”

Fans quickly expressed their fury at the hacker, with one Twitter user writing, “This isn't funny, especially with all the legends dying recently.”

Another added, “Not funny,” and one grief-stricken fan wrote, “ I have been crying for last hour! Is Jack ok?”
