She’s the most famous of the Kardashian children, and North West hit headlines once again last week, after mum Kim posted a snap of the 20 month old posing in a bulletproof vest from dad Kanye’s new Adidas collection – with the caption: ‘‘Look at my little cutie!!! #DaddysMuse #BabyYeezyBulletProofVest.”
But the photo soon drew criticism from fans, with one posting online: “Can this child ever be a normal baby girl and wear some colours, a bow? Anything? So sad what you’re doing to your child.” Another wrote: “I feel like she is just a fashion accessory.”
The incident came just days after North was snapped having a tantrum on the front row of Kanye’s New York Fashion Week debut for Adidas, and later at the Alexander Wang show – sparking debate over whether the couple should take her to such events.
It’s not the first time Kim, 34, and 37-year-old Kanye’s parenting styles has come under fire. During Paris Fashion Week in November, the pair – who wed last May – were criticised for dressing North in a sheer lace and leather outfit.
But insiders claim Kim’s latest scandal over North has caused huge friction with older sister Kourtney, 35, who has children Mason, five, Penelope, two, and two-month-old son Reign with long-term partner Scott Disick.
A source says: “Kourtney and Kim have drastically different parenting methods but have really clashed over Kim’s insistence on bringing North to public events.
“Kourtney’s a real Earth mother at heart and tries to keep her kids’ lives as normal as possible – she only takes them to child-friendly showbiz events and wouldn’t dream of taking them out in some of the outfits North wears. She’s told Kim she’s using North for attention and it’s not fair.”
The source adds: “Kourtney and Kim have always had a fiery relationship, but it’s become intense in recent months. Kim thinks it all stems from Kourtney being jealous of her success. She’s told Kourtney to stop judging her.”
