Hollyoaks fans have been left shocked this morning after learning that actress Stephanie Davis- who plays Sinead O’Conner- has been axed from the soap.

According to a spokesperson for the Channel 4 teatime show, Stephanie’s contract has been terminated.

The news comes as a shock especially after the soap star revealed that she had signed another year-long contract with the popular drama.

She told the Daily Star following her new contract: “I'm really happy. I've been in the show since I was 16 and I'm 22 now. I've kind of grown up here, which has been mental.”

Stephanie’s character was introduced in 2010 along with Sinead’s step mum Diane, dad Rob and brother Finn.

It is not known why her contract has been terminated so abruptly, but producers are now left with the task of writing Sinead out of the show.

It is not known what Stephanie's plans are following her exit from Hollyoaks, but she shared a cryptic message on social media
