Mercedes will tell her brother John Paul she hasn’t felt the baby for a day, before they find out the heartbreaking news.
Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes, recently opened up about the sensitive storyline, and admitted they’ve been working closely with charity Count The Kick to ensure it’s as authentic as possible.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Jen, 32, said: “I’m honoured to have been given this storyline to raise awareness of such an important cause.
“Count The Kids is a fantastic charity, which aims to teach expectant mothers about noticing changes in their pregnancy to reduce the risk of stillbirth.
“And working with Sands [bereavement support charity] has helped me understand how Mercedes would cope with life after baby has died.”
We’re used to Mercedes being one of the feistier characters on the Channel 4 soap, but Jen continued that the loss of her son will open up a whole new side to her.
She added: “Mercedes has already been through so much tragedy in her life, but the death of her son will show a much more fragile side to her character.”
Mercedes’ relationship with Joe Roscoe will be tested following their loss, and her mum Myra will return permanently to offer support.
