Mercedes McQueen has been struggling with the loss of her beautiful baby boy, Gabriel, following his tragic stillbirth.
But it seems as if the Hollyoaks favourite is set to fall pregnant again with a rainbow baby in upcoming months.
WHAT IS A RAINBOW BABY?
A rainbow baby is a baby born after the loss of a previous child.
“It is understood that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravages of any storm. When a rainbow appears, it doesn’t mean that the storm never happened, or that we are not still dealing with its aftermath.
“It means that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds.
“Storm clouds may still hover, but the rainbow provides a counterbalance of colour, energy and hope.”
HOW DO WE KNOW MERCEDES MCQUEEN IS PREGNANT?
The Sun have obtained exclusive pictures of Jennifer Metcalfe wearing a large prosthetic baby bump on the Hollyoaks set.
Her baby joy will come almost a year after the loss of her son, Gabriel.
But who is the father of the heavily pregnant star’s unborn baby?
Well, unfortunately, we don’t know for sure just yet - could it be Joe Roscoe (Ayden Callaghan)?
Whoever the dad is, we have a feeling that viewers will be hooked by the thrilling new plot twist.
HOW DID JENNIFER METCALFE PREPARE FOR HER HEARTBREAKING STILLBIRTH STORYLINE?
Jennifer worked alongside two stillbirth charities, Sands and Count The Kicks, to prepare for the heartbreaking storyline.
She said in a statement: "I'm honoured to have been given this storyline to raise awareness of such an important cause.
“Kicks Count is a fantastic charity, which aims to teach expectant mothers about noticing changes in their pregnancy to reduce the risk of stillbirth.
"And working with Sands has helped me understand how Mercedes would cope with life after her baby has died.”
She added: “Mercedes has already been through so much tragedy in her life, but the death of her son will show a much more fragile side to her character.
"The scripts are brilliantly written by [Hollyoaks screenwriter] Anna Clements and with the help of the two charities, I was able to really understand what Mercedes is going through."
HOW WILL MERCEDES MCQUEEN HANDLE THE EMOTIONS OF HAVING A RAINBOW BABY?
Mercedes is one of the strongest characters in Hollyoaks, but there’s no doubt in our minds that this experience will be an emotional one for her.
However the writers at Hollyoaks always handle big topics with care and sensitivity, so we are sure that Jennifer’s portrayal will be an incredible one.
Plus it’s worth remembering that she was recently faced with her own mortality when she was cornered once again by serial killer Silas Blissett.
Perhaps their confrontation will have reminded her to live for each day and embrace every single moment?
