It was a very special Christmas for Hollyoaks star Claire Cooper when boyfriend Emmett Scanlan surprised her with a proposal.

The couple announced the news on Christmas Eve via an adorable Instagram pictures, showing the bride and groom to-be toasting their future with a glass of bubbly.

You could see Claire’s amazing engagement ring as the couple shared a smooch in the cute snap.

Emmett- who plays Glen Martin in The Fall- wrote on his Instagram account: "There are over a million ways to ask the question, but only one real answer. #WorldsLongestHangoverStartsToday."

Claire- who stars in Hollyoaks as Jacqui McQueen- took to her own Twitter account to thank followers for their kind messages of congratulations: "I am a very happy Cooper today ... Soon to be Scanlan! Thank you for your lovely messages."
