It’s official; Alex Fletcher is six months pregnant!

The 39-year-old soapstar has confirmed that she is expecting a baby boy with her husband Neil Davies - and she couldn’t be more excited about it.

"It's so thrilling and slightly surreal," Alex told Hello. "I'm still on a bit of a high about it all.

“It's a big deal, isn't it? I'm 40 in July.”

Opening up over her desire for a second child, the soapstar revealed that her baby boy will be a rainbow baby, as she suffered a sad loss last year as a result of an ectopic pregnancy.

WHAT IS A RAINBOW BABY?

A rainbow baby is a baby born after the loss of a previous child.

“It is understood that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravages of any storm. When a rainbow appears, it doesn’t mean that the storm never happened, or that we are not still dealing with its aftermath.

“It means that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds.

“Storm clouds may still hover, but the rainbow provides a counterbalance of colour, energy and hope.”

Speaking about her baby loss, Alex explained: "It felt dangerous and frightening."

"Luckily I didn't need surgery and didn't lose my Fallopian tubes. I had to take Methotrexate, which wasn't pleasant and meant we couldn't try for a baby for another six months.

"Having gone through all that, it made me realise how much I wanted a baby.

“I was on a mission.”

Revealing her joy over falling pregnant again, she added: “We were so lucky it only took four months. When the pregnancy test line turned blue, I called Neil to come home.

“We were in shock."

The couple are already parents to 10-year-old Yasmin, who we imagine is VERY excited about becoming a big sister.

While Alex wouldn’t confirm how she will be leaving Hollyoaks, she did add that her exit is DEFINITELY going to be worth watching.

However fans of the show don’t need to worry just yet; there’s still LOTS of drama in store for Diane, as Alex will be filming with the show until May.

Congratulations to her and her husband!
