Taking to Twitter, Sarah – who plays Celine McQueen in the Channel 4 soap – sent a bold message to viewers to tell them that it is not OK to tweet these insensitive messages.

“No wonder so many people have eating disorders,” she began.

“Put a bit of weight over Xmas while on holiday (we’re all guilty of it) come back to work, wear a typical McQueen dress and get tweets asking if you’re pregnant or just fat when it airs in April. To set that straight no I’m not.”

Obviously, Sarah was shocked and hurt by these upsetting comments, and was curious to know why people felt it was okay to comment on her appearance in a negative way.

She sassily added: “When did it become okay to comment constantly on people's appearances so negatively? I'm healthy, happy and I exercise regularly and I'm sorry I didn't fit into my dress as well as people seem to want me to.”

Many fans responded to Sarah’s tweet, praising the 23 year old for standing up to the online trolls, including fellow Hollyoaks stars.

Newly cast Rachel Adedeji – who plays Lisa Loveday – replied: “Preach it sis! Some people are just haters. You’re amazing, talented, and very sexy. So much respect for you”.

“Brilliantly put my love. You’re 100% gorge,” added Annie Wallace, who plays headmistress Sally St. Claire in Hollyoaks.

“Ignore them babe. You are beautiful,” one fan commented.

And another replied: “I thought you looked lovely in that dress.”

Sarah finished her post by saying that she was brought up knowing “if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all”.

Recently, Helen Flanagan was also the subject of cruel online trolls, who commented on her recent Instagram pictures questioning why she would post the snap.

We think Sarah looks beautiful, don’t you?
