Holly Willoughby is recovering after having surgery on her vocal cords – the same type Adele had to have

The bubbly TV presenter had been struggling with nodules growing inside her voice box, which can be as a result of excessive singing, talking or other types of vocal exercise.

Yesterday she tweeted her relief that the procedure went well and said she was looking forward to the future.

“Phew! Nodules gone, operation a success. After Adele had hers done, she won a Grammy… Fingers crossed! Xxx,” she told her followers.

The nodules can come about after someone has injured the soft tissue of their vocal cords, which leads to bleeding and the formation of blister-like growths. In time these cause the cords to scar and stiffen, which can result in the loss of vocal range.

Adele was affected by them in 2011, prompting her to have the surgery to remove the polyps. Although there is no guarantee a patient’s voice will go back to normal after the procedure, Adele was lucky in that she quickly regained her whole range.

Holly has been busy filming for the upcoming series of Celebrity Juice with Keith Lemon and posted a picture of herself dressed as a cheerleader on Thursday.

However, today she announced she’s looking for a better balance between her work and family life, and so will not be returning as the host for season three of The Voice.

“I’ve had two wonderful years on the show and I feel very privileged to have been a part of it,” she tweeted.

“Finding the right balance between my work and family life is my priority and this has contributed to my decision. I look forward to watching the next series from my sofa, and I wish everyone the best of luck. Xxx”

She is due to be replaced by Celebrity Big Brother presenter Emma Willis.
