Hayley Hughes has spoken out about how her mum protected her from her abusive father
The Love Island star, who left the villa alongside partner Charlie Frederick last week, revealed that her mother Nichola chose to leave her 'emotionally and physically abusive' dad Carl Wooding to protect Hayley.
Nichola fled when Hayley was just four years old and the star never had a relationship with her dad again.
She told the paper, "I never called him dad, I haven’t had a relationship with him since I was four.
“He was abusive physically and mentally. My mum did the right thing for me and saved me from it.
"She kept me away from growing up with someone like that."
The Sun reported that Hayley's father was a drug addict who was convicted of running over his partner in 2012 with their two children in the car, before reportedly moving on with another woman he was also abusive towards.
Carl died in March this year and Hayley reportedly found out through a cousin but chose not to attend his funeral.
