She was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her Georgia home in January and spent six months fighting for her life.
While Krissy’s untimely death undoubtedly shook her family, it is of course not the first time they’ve dealt with such circumstances.
Krissy’s mother Whitney Houston was found unconscious on 11 February 2012 – submerged in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The superstar, aged 48 at the time, was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics attended the scene. The cause was later revealed as a combination of drowning, heart disease and cocaine use.
This week Whitney’s legion of fans, who had watched with the world as Krissy grew up, took to social media to post their grief: unable to ignore the haunting connection between her death and Whitney’s.
Shortly after Krissy’s hospitalisation many reports, though unconfirmed, claimed she’d grown ‘obsessed’ with the way Whitney had died.
One told a US publication: “She was seemingly obsessed by it – strangely more so than last year or the year before.”
Although the official cause of Krissy’s death is yet to be confirmed, US site TMZ claim that police sources have revealed she had a habit of drinking and taking drugs, before falling asleep in the bath.
Krissy’s close bond with her mother was well documented – wherever Whitney went, her daughter was usually found by her side.
She was a staple in Whitney’s successful musical career, featuring on tracks and in music videos, and often appearing on stage in front of thousands.
Whitney also gained full custody of Krissy, following her split from Bobby Brown, so there was rarely a time they were apart.
It is thought that ‘complicated grief’ can lead to a person imitating a lost loved one. In this case, was Krissy imitating her mother’s last moments?
GriefHealingBlog.com says: “Danger signals include suicidal thoughts and/or plans to act upon such thoughts, self-destructive behaviours, severe mental disorganisation, deep feelings of guilt, regrets and low self-esteem, continued irritability or violent outbursts of rage, radical, sudden, shocking changes in lifestyle, and physical symptoms that imitate those of the deceased.”
Whitney’s fans knew how much Krissy looked up to her. Whitney was everything Krissy wanted to be: a mother, a wife and a successful musician and actress.
In the months leading up to her hospitalisation, it was reported that Krissy was feeling the impact of her mother’s death more than ever.
Chillingly, two days before being discovered unconscious, Krissy tweeted: “On my own.”
But now, as pointed out by many of her mother’s biggest supporters, Krissy isn’t on her own anymore – she and Whitney have finally been reunited.
