The 72-year-old is said to be in a stable condition in hospital, after getting into difficulties during take-off yesterday.

According to Harrison's son, the actor was forced to crash land the WW2 vintage plane on an LA golf course after reporting engine power loss.

Despite hitting a tree during his emergency landing, Harrison was still conscious when paramedics arrived at the scene.

He was taken to hospital where he is being treated for head injuries.

According to a statement obtained by KABC, his injuries are not "life threatening."

"Harrison was flying a WW2 vintage plane today which had engine trouble upon take off," his publicist told KABC.

"He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely. He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery."

Tweeting from the hospital, son Ben Ford added:

"At the hospital, dad is okay. Battered, but ok. He is every bit the man you think he is. He is an incredible strong man."
