For most of us, getting to work for a start time of 6am sounds like hell – but for Kate Garraway it’s become second nature.

The 48-year-old has worked on ITV breakfast for the last 15 years, and she insists that, despite the unsociable hours, it’s the perfect job to fit around her two children, Darcey, 10, and five-year-old Jack, who she shares with husband Derek Draper.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the Good Morning Britain co-host said: “We don’t quite arrive in our pyjamas but it’s straight out of the shower, no make-up and into the car.”

Since the show finishes at 8.30am every morning, Kate is often home before the kids’ days have really begun, meaning she feels absolutely no guilt for being a working mum.

She continued: “Breakfast TV is a brilliant job for a mum. I also do my Smooth Radio show in the afternoons.”

Although it’s great for her children, Kate admits her schedule means she often has to miss out on social events due to the early starts.

Kate sympathises with Olly's X Factor slip-up

“There’s no going out in the evening,” she explains. I have to plan my day around maximising time with the children.”

And, as someone who’s presented live TV since 2000, Kate understands that slip-ups can and will happen.

Discussing Olly Murs’ recent X Factor blunder, Kate gushed: “I wanted to give him a hug – he looked so crestfallen. He’s such a lovely guy and the last thing he’d have wanted to is upset anybody.”
