The 25-year-old Brighton-based reality TV star has 30 hours to complete one of England’s toughest and most popular walking challenges, covering 100km in total, to help raise funds for the BHF’s life saving research into heart and circulatory disease - which causes more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK, an average of one person every three minutes.
Alex Michael is taking on the gruelling challenge as her family has a long history of heart disease.
Her father Andrew, who also appears on Channel 4's Gogglebox, has suffered from several angina attacks and had a stent fitted in 2007 after doctors discovered a narrowed artery.
Also, Alex’s grandfather died of dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle, in 1993 when Alex was just two years old.
Alex said: “The BHF’s London to Brighton trek is an event I’ve wanted to take part in for a couple of years now, so I’m really excited.
"I’ve never walked this distance before but it’s all for an amazing cause that’s close to my heart and my friends and family have been really supportive.
"My dad is just one out of 2.3 million people living with coronary heart disease in the UK today, so I’m proud to say I’m doing my bit to help fund the BHF’s life saving research.
“I know it is going to be challenging, walking consistently over 20 hours but knowing that I will be supporting the nation’s heart charity and their fight against heart disease makes it all worthwhile.
"I cannot wait to reach the finish line and see my family waiting for me.”
