Former rugby player George, 35, was arrested on 3 October after assaulting Atomic Kitten singer Kerry – and for being in possession of a stun gun.

Sussex police confirmed to the MailOnline: “A man has been charged in connection with a domestic incident in Crowborough earlier this month.

“Just after 6pm on Saturday, October 3, police were called to an address in Gorsedene Close to a report that a 35-year-old woman had allegedly been assaulted.

Kerry announced she and George are to divorce after 13-months of marriage

“George Kay, 35, a labourer of Warrington, answered bail on Saturday evening and was charged with assault by beating and possession of a prohibited weapon. He will appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on November 26.”

Following reports of George’s attack on her, Kerry announced that she’d ended their marriage – just 13 months after they tied the knot.

George, who shares daughter Dylan-Jorge with Kerry, opened up to Closer about their relationship issues earlier this year.

He said: “It’s been tough lately. We’ve been rowing a lot. Marriage isn’t what I thought it would be to be honest.

“There have been times I’ve thought we might not last. In my darkest moments I’ve wondered if we should even be together.”
