George Clooney's dad Nick has spoken to Good Morning Britain about his "beautiful" grandchildren and "magnificent" daughter-in-law Amal

George Clooney and his wife Amal became first-time parents on Tuesday to twins Ella and Alexander.

George's publicist Stan Rosenfield announced the happy news in a statement: "Amal and the twins are happy, healthy and doing fine," and joked: "George is sedated and should recover in a few days."

And now George's dad Nick Clooney has spoken out about his new grandchildren.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain earlier today over the phone, he gushed over the twins: "They're absolutely beautiful."

The journalist added: "I'm supposed to be a reporter, therefore observant, but I really don't know how to describe one beautiful baby from another beautiful baby - these are two beautiful babies."

Nick continued by saying that he had great faith in his son, and added that he was in awe of his daughter-in-law: "George will be an absolutely wonderful father, Amal will be - and already is - a magnificent mother. I'm constantly amazed by her. She is an incredible woman. George certainly married up!"

When asked about nappy duty, Nick said of his 56-year-old son: "George will be hands on entirely and he will do it with humour and with joy."

He added: "My wife would be the one you'd have to talk to as to whose nose looks like grandpa's nose or grandma's nose. They are perfect."

Nick also took the time to thank all the couple's fans who had congratulated the family: "They have sent good wishes, they have kept attentive watch on this event as it unfolded and we have been aware of that and we have really been very, very grateful, thank you."

N'aww!
