Fans took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness after the GC made her announcement in August – but we'd never guess it was because of this.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Gemma confessed that the stress of playing up to her on-screen alter-ego left her with a constant upset stomach.
She said: "I would look in the mirror and wonder who I was. There was so much pressure. I used to have diarrhoea constantly.
"I used to be in bits before filming or going out. My guts were in bits and I was never off the toilet. It was becoming a nightmare but all that has stopped now I've left."
This isn't the first time Gemma's been more than open about her bowel movements.
During her short-lived appearance on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here last year, Gemma was convinced she had malaria – because of the colour of her poo.
On one occasion, after going to the toilet, Gemma said: "I feel like I've got malaria. That was something else, it was bright yellow, like fluorescent."
With Gemma rumoured to be going back into the jungle this year, to prove that she can go the distance, let's hope she keeps that kind of information to herself in future…
